Want to know how KDE Linux is going? Check out "This Month in KDE Linux"

https://pointieststick.com/2026/03/14/this-month-in-kde-linux/

March's issue brings the news that updates in Discover now show real numbers instead of just "unknown"; #Kapsule, the service that let's you persistently run whole systems in containers, is ever more integrated with KDE's other software; #Kup, KDE's backup tool, now comes preinstalled...

... And much more!

This is a real time recording of my git server's web access logs. It's a constant stream of requests from "Claude" attempting to access every possible item on the site.

A couple of months ago, I set up a rule to return an error code for every request its user agent makes. It has not retrieved a single valid item for many, many weeks at this point. Every request is immediately and abruptly terminated.

It hasn't even slowed down as a result.

Tell me again how their operation involves "intelligence" of any kind.

Tuta Drive has entered the private alpha stage. 🥳

Get excited with us for the upcoming beta release! 🎊 🤩

So, I started to volunteer in our local community centre to help (mostly) elder people with their computer and smartphone problems.

It's fascinating. We have people there up to their 90s and they are all every open for change.

We remove ad ID's from phones, change default browsers, switch from MS Office to #Libreoffice.

And for next time I already have a date with an elder lady to switch her old Windows 10 laptop to Linux Mint.
And she is not the only one!

What a time to be alive.

@nixCraft pages upon pages of generated documents that i had to review this year alone is not even funny.

i can deal with fragmented, poor quality draft notes produced by humans.

but i am sincerely struggling with all my colleagues now being able to turn their bullets into a thesis that to me is a minefield of tiny little errors and inaccuracies i need to catch and disarm.

this is not making me, or them, more efficient. it just produces more stuff that doesnt need to be there.

przypominam osobom fanowskim że już jutro na Politechnice Poznańskiej będą miały okazję wysłuchać moją prelekcję pt. „Dobre strony Fediwersum — jak sfederowane platformy społecznościowe wygrywają już dziś”

ME: we do not. we have had the conversation. we have had it nine thousand times. the conversation has been had. everyone agrees it was a bad conversation. and yet here we are. having it. again. in the atlantic

Open Source at the Heart of Europe’s (and the World’s) Digital Future - Open Source Initiative

From Code & Compliance and the EU Open Source Academy Awards and Policy Summit, to multiple FOSDEM devrooms, the Open Source Initiative (OSI) engaged directly with the community throughout the week, convening conversations, contributing expertise, and reinforcing the importance of open governance in an increasingly regulated digital landscape.

Open Source Initiative

This petition wants contributing to Free Software to be legally and officially recognized as volunteering in Germany on the same level as youth work or ambulance service:

https://www.openpetition.de/petition/online/recognition-of-work-on-open-source-as-volunteering-in-germany#petition-main

This would bring fiscal and funding advantages for FLOSS organizations and the volunteers themselves.

If you are a German citizen, please sign the petition and let's get our volunteers the recognition they deserve!
