One conflict between me and some people who follow me on social media: I think it's difficult to describe what Fox is, they think it's easy.

Propaganda. Entertainment. Angertainment. Pro Wrestling.

My current description of Fox:

The commercial arm of a right wing political movement, specializing in strategic resentment and aggregated grievance in the attention economy, while behind the scenes it tries to be a kingmaker and party boss, riding the tiger of manipulated rage.

After Ngo's thuggish legal threats against me left him totally embarrassed, Ngo filed a false DMCA report against my account.

Ngo abused Twitter's copyright reporting system in another desperate attempt to silence me. If there had been a federal anti-SLAPP law in effect, Ngo would have been destroyed in court for this stunt.

After the @eff responded on my behalf to Andy Ngo's false DMCA report against me, Twitter agreed with us and reversed their decision to suspend my account. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/andy-ngo-falanga-picture-dmca-twitter

Andy Ngô keeps reporting people on Twitter who post this very real photo of him standing by far-right graffiti

Andy Ngô filed multiple DMCA claims against Twitter users who posted an image of him posing in front of a far-right group's name.

"The experience with crypto for many people of color has proven, in short, to be a continuation of an exploitative pattern of predatory inclusion. Meanwhile, many individuals of color remain excluded from the financial system. And even as their need for wealth-building opportunities persists, crypto hasn’t come close to delivering on its promise of access and opportunity." – Tonantzin Carmona

Can’t help but notice that when Twitter banned cross-linking certain social media sites it didn’t include Gab, Gettr, or Parler.
Free speech is whatever the person with the most money says it is.

Today, Twitter suspended It's Going Down (@igd_news), a longtime anarchist and anti-fascist news source that had never previously run afoul of the Twitter rules. At the time of their suspension, they had 108,000 followers.

Elon Musk was lying through his teeth when he said he believes in free speech. He bought Twitter in order to suppress the voices of those who seek an egalitarian society. Since taking over the platform, he has reinstated avowed neo-Nazis and taken guidance from those who explicitly support fascism as he targets journalists and activists.

Canary in the Coal Mine: Twitter and the End of Social Media

Is there life after social media? Will reactionary billionaires determine all we can imagine and do, or will we establish other forms of connection?

Every time another COVID outbreak happens in China, every time Chinese ppl decide to protest, you can just feel the barely contained glee in western journalists' reporting. They don't care about Chinese ppl—they only care about opening up the country to unrestrained US capital.

I want to be happy here.

But my Black friends keep getting banned for doing justice work.

Or just... Existing.

At a much quieter volume than I do.

If people didn’t know me or who I’m connected to, would I be gone by now too? 😔

How do you exist in a world where your cultural norm is frowned upon?

Why do I always have to compromise with the oppression dynamic

or get removed? 😭

It’s painful.

And there’s no reason to it.

And all the “solutions” include bowing to that same dynamic.

While everyone's being nostalgic about what Twitter means to them, I may as well add my two cents.

I didn't give birth to Twitter – that was Jack and Florian. But I was its midwife and adoptive mother; for two months in early 2007, I was the code's sole guardian and caretaker.

I was also the first person to hate Twitter; back when it was SMS-only, I did the math and realized that my immigrant prepaid phone plan would charge me $2000/year to send and receive even a 2006-era number of tweets. 🧵

Olivia Pichardo is the first woman to make the roster of Division I baseball team

"Olivia put together the most complete walk-on tryout I have seen from a player," said Brown University baseball coach Grant Achilles. Taking the field will fulfill a long-held dream for Pichardo, 18.
