@james Listening to this week’s Podnews Weekly Review, I heard you say you weren’t aware of any podcast hosting company aside from Omny Studio that supports the Media RSS media:thumbnail tag.

One more for the list: Simplecast.

Shortcuts, shenanigans, and real audience growth — Bumper | data-driven podcast growth agency

Last week, Bloomberg’s Ashley Carman reported on MowPod, and how they’ve been selling Apple Podcasts followers to publishers for $5 apiece . I’ve been aware of these MowPod follower campaigns for a while. So have many of my industry peers. To be clear: I’ve never bought a MowPod followers campaign

An example of something I love about open podcasting and open source software:

OPAWG maintains a list of podcast prefixes at https://github.com/opawg/podcast-prefixes

Last week, I noticed a new (to me) prefix from United Podcasters. So I added it to the list of prefixes.

This week, Bumper launched Podcast X-Ray. And because we're using OPAWG's prefix list, the newly-added United Podcasters is detectable (e.g. https://podcastxray.com/podcast/1603004118)

Love it!

Big thanks to @james, @js, and all other contributors to OPAWG!

Pipe Dreams: The life and times of Yahoo Pipes

In 2007, a small team at Yahoo! briefly changed how we program the internet. This is their story.

Updated my look at the effect of iOS 17 on Apple Podcasts download share numbers - now with an additional ten days of data!

- iOS 17+ seems to have plateaued at over 70% of AP listeners
- for AP-heavy shows, seeing AP share drops from high 60s to low 60s

Tracking the impact of the auto-downloading changes to Apple Podcasts in iOS 17

Apple made a change to auto-downloading in Apple Podcasts in iOS 17, are we seeing a difference in downloads?
