Transport from Niigata to Berlin

After the residency at YUI-PORT, the Misemono-Yatai left Japan for the very first time and departed on an epic 30,000 km journey. The mobile project space finally arrived at its new home base in Berlin, Germany, after 78 days at sea and on the road.
Many thanks to the hardworking staff at YUI-PORT for the logistical support and to the friends in Berlin who helped with unboxing.

One-day exhibition event at YUI-PORT's Workshop Gallery, featuring a work-in-progress version of the show assembled during the yatai's 2023/24 tour, a sound performance by fellow residents Passepartout Duo (Nicoletta Favari, Christopher Salvito), and the food event Mobile Menu #18 "Edible Stones" by Berlin project space stay hungry (Michel Aniol, Meike Kuhnert) which was realized by Niigata artist yoyo.

Looking back at the residency in Niigata, which was made possible thanks to YUI-PORT's Autonomous Activity Program 2024 Winter. Just as during the previous residency in Itoshima, artists from Niigata and the wider Chūbu region were invited to submit works and ideas for the new exhibition which – together with the yatai itself – would depart for Berlin after the end of the stay.

After the residency at Studio Kura, the Misemono-Yatai needed to travel 1200km to its next destination YUI-PORT – the most challenging journey thus far. Fortunately, Yoshio Nakano and his trusty 1985 Mitsubishi Delica came to the rescue once more. Many thanks to him and to Operation Table curator Makiko Matake, who helped to plan our epic sea and road journey.
