@bohwaz
Because the only mention of murena I can find from GrapheneOS around that time is this one:
It definitely nothing to do with Rossmann but it's very possible Murena and/or iodé are involved. Both are French companies selling products with extraordinarily poor privacy/security. Both are useful to official state plans of locally hosted services with encryption backdoors
It's not at all the same as saying "murena manipulated the police and the media". They just say they could be involved in the smear campaign against GrapheneOS (which might be false, obviously, but is possible though maybe not very nice to hear)
Or maybe you are referring to this post?
iodéOS and /e/OS are based in France. iodéOS and /e/OS make devices dramatically more vulnerable while misleading users about privacy and security. These fake privacy products serve the interest of authoritarians rather than protecting people. /e/OS receives millions of euros in government funding.
But they still don't say that Murena manipulated the police and media.
Also, for context, months before, you have Murena founder attacking the GrapheneOS lead personnaly on Mastodon
we know the problem is not Graphene, but his leader who is hiding behind various Graphene accounts and posts
Why?
Probably because weeks before GrapheneOS made enterely valid and sourced (if not very nice) posts about the abysmal security of /e/ as a project:
/e/OS disables important security features and rolls back the privacy/security model substantially. They do not properly sign their builds and don't do proper production builds. This also applies to LineageOS but /e/OS forks LineageOS and makes it much worse. The patch delays and how much security is rolled back separately from patches is much worse.
If you care about privacy and security then a Fairphone is a bad choice regardless of OS but /e/OS is an extremely poor choice.
Yeah, I imagine it's not very nice to hear. But it's true. And it is said without attacking the Murena team.
So here again what I see:
GrapheneOS raises accurate and valid technical points about /e/, a French projectWeeks later, /e/ founder attacks personnally the GrapheneOS project lead on mastodonMonths later, the French press lashes out at GrapheneOS and how it's a criminal OS used by narcotrafficants, etc.In one twitter reply in a thread about that French press, GrapheneOS mentions that yeah, murena (the company behind /e/) could very possibly be involved in a smear campaignIs it true? Probably not. is it nice to say? No. Is it possible? Yes, definitely given the previous posts by /e/ founder, and there seem to be much more in the past:
April 2025:
The most toxic FOSS community ever? grapheneos.org
They have been constantly attacking /e/OS and me (direct threats from their founder in DM!) for years.
What direct threats in DM? There are no receipts in the thread except a public t read from GrapheneOS.
March 2025, unprompted in response to a positive post about GrapheneOS:
And for the masses: Murena smartphones and /e/OS!
February 2025:
This is a toxic community lead by a super toxic guy who is into permanent destruction. We just want to have nothing to do with them. We have different product goals anyhow so no problem (we are not into any competition with them)
February 2025, unprompted in response to a positive post about GrapheneOS:
A deGoogled mobile OS that works for everyone is called /e/OS
May 2024:
And be ready for aggresive comments from the most toxic community and founder I ever met for the past 25 years. Haven't checked yet, maybe it already started.
So yeah, that put things in perspective for me
