#GenX twitter refugee. I'm mainly anti Brexit, pro EU, pro empathy, pro choice, and some what amazed people follow me.

Occasionally will post about things like perl, programming, software engineering etc, but mostly that'll be drowned out in the noise.

Has Elon broke is toy again?

This is the single dumbest thing Elon probably could have done as he desperately tries to bring advertising dollars back to Twitter. Proof that Twitter is a low-performer.

This is so dumb that I have no doubt he'll remove it in the next few weeks in order to "retool" it for a later release. Probably will make some H1B hostages work on Christmas to roll it back.

Timmy Mallot of all people just posted this on soundcloud - a 2 hour set from Terry Hall, last heard in 1985.

Stop what you are doing, it's worth it.

Terry Hall Easter special Piccadilly Radio, Manchester TX: 8th April 1985 21:00-23:00

I asked 25 year old Terry Hall if he'd like to have a go at presenting his own show. There were just the two of us in studio 2 at Piccadilly Radio with a pile of records and a delightful shy and slightly nervous Terry. I played the records in real time, and encouraged him to tell his story and he gets more confident as the show progresses. Enjoy the revelation of his inspirations and a personal insight into the processes of his recording. There are some joyous surprises coming up The tape has been in the loft since 1985.

Elon Musk is Still Silencing the Journalists he Banned from Twitter.

It looks like our accounts have been reinstated, but it's an illusion: We're actually locked out and can't post anything without deleting specific tweets the billionaire doesn't like.

Elon Musk Is Still Silencing the Journalists He Banned From Twitter

To you, it looks like Musk unblocked journalists like me. It’s an illusion: The truth is that we are still locked out of our accounts.

I see that Twitter is auctioning off lots of its San Francisco office furniture, coffee machines, etc.

Signalling, perhaps, a move from the pampering of the Silicon Valley dotcom culture, to a more ascetic existence?

I wouldn't be surprised if the arc of the story sees the remaining "hardcore" developers moving to Austin and ending up living and working in a compound, or a shared house like Heaven's Gate, or something.

the point is that ChatGPT may do some amazing things but it is also terrible, and it’s terrible for a reason more fundamental than any concerns about AI taking jobs or stealing other people’s creations or manifesting all of the internet’s awful biases in one tightly-packaged model.

It’s terrible because IT’S STILL SOFTWARE and ALL SOFTWARE IS TERRIBLE* and ALL COMPUTERS ARE TERRIBLE

Had my pneumonia and flu vaccines today. Nurse was “we’re offering the pneumonia vaccine today for people who have a high risk profile”. Me: stick that right in my arm.

Guess you can work out where I stand on the whole vaccine or not vaccine debate.

Investing your time in Mastodon now is like investing your time in Twitter in 2007. It's going to pay off.

When people travel to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small.

Few people think that they can radically change the future by doing something small in the present.

This is the only real time travel paradox.
