Just saying hi around here. It's been a while.
TikTok bans in the US are painfully misguided and will backfire on so many levels. As @riana puts it, “It’s a maddening irony that American legislators’ idea for countering China is to act more like China" https://www.wired.com/story/montana-tiktok-ban-first-amendment/
Montana’s Looming TikTok Ban Is a Dangerous Tipping Point

The state is poised to be the first in the US to block downloads of the popular app, which could ignite a precarious chain reaction for digital rights.

I've signed out of Twitter on all my devices.

Now, if anyone knows of any service that can help migrate my Timeline over to Mastodon, that would be amazing.

TBH, this seems worse than having the road blocked by climate activists for a few minutes.
applauding NPR for quitting twitter and hoping others will follow suit https://www.npr.org/2023/04/12/1169269161/npr-leaves-twitter-government-funded-media-label

HUGE: Expelled Tennessee Democrat Justin Jones was just reinstated to his seat in the Tennessee House by a unanimous vote in the Nashville Metropolitan Council.

Republicans just made his megaphone bigger than ever.

Hi #lawfedi - on #Twitter:

Given that Elon is making (almost) everyone pay to be on the promoted “for you” page….

Aren’t those now functionally the same as paid ads?

So shouldn’t the US FTC step in and require those be labeled as ads, like other ads?

Secondly: As the top brands and advertisers are now let onto “for you” promotion for free, exempting them from the fees he charges everyone else, I’ll bet includes big political brands….

So wouldn’t the FEC see those as in-kind donations?
