Relatively cranky autism researcher. Weirdly lurking. Does not charge cell phone. Likes to make jokes. Not funniest ever but close enough.
Has Kevin McCarthy tried turning the House off and then turning it back on again?
@GossiTheDog Yes, switching has been difficult and mostly I see a lot of posts about how great mastadon is and how terrible new users are for not appreciating that. I get why people don't want the algorithms, but on twitter they helped me build my networks, find the things I liked, and curate my feed much more quickly.
I'm looking for a good & brief overview of epistemology in social sciences, if anyone has recommendations! #academicchatter #psychology #research
Please boost this to other mastodon.world users. We get several reports a day alleging a rule violation (e.g. no racism) but no actual post is included in the report. We do not have the resources to scroll through a user’s post history to try and locate the post that resulted in the report and so we close the report with no action. Please do report rule violations but ensure you link the offending post. Thanks. @ruud
So I love watching numberphile because right off the bat someone will say something like “I’m a topologist, which means I think about shapes I can make out of other shapes by bending but not breaking them,” which tells me (1) that it is a whole job to think about this question and (2) that enough people have this job that it gets its own name beyond “mathematician” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CVOr7f_VALc

@Willavandijk I will also share that we have updated (manuscript to be submitted) and the studies doubled in only 4 years since our last search
@Willavandijk well not to self promote but ours (Sandbank et al, 2020; Project AIM) has garnered a lot of attention (was selected as a top 20 advances in autism research) and Steinbrenner et al., 2020 (NCAEP) is perhaps an interesting contrast that shows how different methods and inclusion criteria can lead to different findings
@ProPublica I would like to be able to see all of the people that follow a given user and then very easily follow those people (e.g., follow links next to each name listed instead of having to go to their profile)

so today i learned that i can follow a hashtag and get those posts in my feed.

yay!
