like, so you gonna ban all the instances listed on the official site or what? the ones that have specific guarantees around moderation and grace periods for account cancellation? weird but okay
seems kind of weird that people announce that they donโ€™t accept follow requests from some of the more popular instances until people โ€œget gudโ€, i get people want to protect themselves somehow but feels weirdly gatekeeper-y when thereโ€™s already a high barrier to entry to begin with
@harshad unrelated, whatโ€™s your costs looking like so far for everything? thinking about standing up my own instance. might use GCS or something for object storage myself
i think the next challenge is to see whether gen z thinks this is a cool platform or not (prob notโ€ฆ but maybe thatโ€™s okay?)

Looks like @[email protected] is right - the wall is coming tumbling down

I have made the decision to leave Twitter.๐Ÿ‘‹

At this time I am convinced that this platform is no longer safe for me, or my community. I do not intend on contributing any more content at this time.

The health of the greater "we" is more important than the smaller "me".

@estarla iโ€™m new to it too! iโ€™m learning as well, and found that itโ€™s been nice engaging directly w folks, more so than how it is on twitter - but yeah, i mean, it was also the case on early twitter for a while until it gained critical mass and cultural cachet, iโ€™m sure the same will happen here in time
off to go to my local. it's great having local community both here in NYC and also somewhat online here as well on mastodon. wherever you all are, cheers
@yuhline comedy is OVER

Just a thought, directed to the wrong people, but anyone who professes to want to be supportive and better understand the experience of marginalized folks and make things easier for them would be really well-served and probably learn a lot by listening and incorporating the local culture/etiquette tips being flung around, which are literally telling you what works.

If you want the fun culture tips as well, we will teach you, and create new with you. But the CW and checking profiles for preferences about contact and stuff IS supporting marginalized folks, that's where those customs came from and we finesse the heck out of them regularly.
