Just got The TV Writer's Guide by Margaret R. Weiss (1952), which contains a script from The Laytons, the first US TV show to star a black actor: Amanda Randolph, who played Martha, the Laytons' housekeeper and star of the show. I read it out loud to Chris and we both laughed.
I investigated a market research scheme that exploited poor, innocent classic sitcoms like City starring Valerie Harper. Check it out here: https://rerunrewind.com/p/scam-city #rerunrewind #sitcoms #classicsitcoms #scam #marketresearch

Community is basically Recess for grown-ups. Prove me wrong.

Recess was a fun little cartoon that aired for six seasons from 1997 to 2001. It followed the zany adventures of a ragtag group of misfits who became close friends at a fictional elementary school. Community was a silly sitcom that aired for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. It followed the zany adventures of a ragtag group of misfits who became close friends at a fictional community college.

Thanks to Chris Meservey for researching this week’s significant sitcom happenings. May 23rd, 1997: NewsRadio Goes Where No Sitcom Has Gone Before The official season three finale of NewsRadio, “Space,” was the first of a series of fantasy episodes where the show explored a “what if” premise, like “What if WNYX was actually the Titanic?” and other crazy things like that. In this episode, instead of a radio station, WNYX is a space station in the distant future. The station is run by voice commands that rarely work, Matthew (Andy Dick) has an android girlfriend, Dave (David Foley) and Mr. James (Stephen Root) go over the books using virtual reality, and there are plenty cheeky references to sci-fi movies and TV shows, like
