Six Months In: Thoughts On The Current Post-Twitter Diaspora Options

Today is six months since Elon took over Twitter and began this bizarre speedrun of the content moderation learning curve in which he seems to repeatedly… not learn a damn thing. Over and over agai…

Hello Friends,

Wanted to make a note that our current roadmap is on our website: https://tapbots.com/ivory/#roadmap

We are a small company of 3 people and only 1 of us replies on this account. Between all the emails and messages here, it's hard to always answer everyone, but we do our best. If your question doesn't get answered here, it's not because we don't care. It's just impossible to always be around to answer everyone. Feel free to send us an email if you don’t get a response here. Thank you! 🙂

Ivory for iOS

A Mastodon app based on the award-winning Twitter app for iOS.

@HilliTech I think most onboarding issues for most people would be solved with a slick client (Ivory for example), and a defaut instance you don’t need to think about other than click “yes”. Maybe a one click way to import your lists and followers from Twitter… But a lot of people there won’t be here - that’s lock in too.

I found the instance selection initially very offputting, it’s a decision you have to make that you don’t know the implications of, with an overwhelming range of options.

Thanks to @ivory, this joint feels a lot more real.

@ivory Enjoying the app and I’m sure you are swamped by feature requests and to do’s but…

So the list implementation is great, but currently, if I add someone I don’t follow, it adds them to the list then when I save, it gives an error.

It would be great if the app had an option to auto follow someone when you add them to a list, if you are not following them already. (And similarly ask to unfollow if you delete them from the list).

@kkomaitis @mmasnick I think at some point telepresence conferencing, shopping and socialising will be useful, but we’re a long way from that now, and who knows what it’ll look like.

Keep pressing and the only definition is “Read Snowcrash.” But I think that’s likely to be like someone in 1970 saying read 2001 if you want to know what space travel will look like in 2001.

Olivier and I are on the same page. Once inflation is tamed — which seems to be happening surprisingly fast — we'll be back in an era of low rates and excess savings https://www.piie.com/blogs/realtime-economics/secular-stagnation-not-over
Secular stagnation is not over

Is secular stagnation over? I do not think so. Today’s inflation will not last, but I believe that low rates will.

@ivory as a longtime tweetbot user Ivory is great. It’s is by far the best client for Mastodon I’ve used. Mercury was good but Ivory makes the whole experience much better. Definately worth the subscription.

The one thing I’d say… I think Ivory could help drive migration to mastodon if the app just had an option of starting an account on a default instance. For someone new coming from Twitter, to be faced with picking an instance when you don’t know anything or why you have to is off putting.

This is very good. And seems appropriate as a first mastodon post.

And I havent figured out how to quote, so here’s the link.

How The Friedman Doctrine Leads To The Enshittification Of All Things

We recently wrote about Cory Doctorow’s great article on how the “enshittification” of social media (mainly Facebook and Twitter) was helping to lower the “switching costs&#…
