I have fallen into this pattern at most jobs but it has definitely been worse lately - combination of the physical environment of the new office, and workload problems while I try to transition off one project & onto another.
I want to try having my computer announce the time, but like, only when Chrome has keyboard focus or I haven't typed anything for 10 minutes.
#actuallyADHD real talk time: I'm having trouble leaving work at night. Sometimes this is bc I can't get my shit done in the afternoon so I stay late to compensate, other times it's not workload or a choice, I just blink at 3:30 and suddenly it's 8pm. Evening plans help but I still left 1/2 hr later for my date than planned last week.
My new office is a windowless cave largely isolated from the routine noises of the hospital (though I can kinda hear shift change).
Advice?
Okay which is worse to be around:
* Blowing your nose noises
* Small coughs + attempting to discreetly snorfle your post-nasal drip noises
I don't think I've ever seen a non-gender-marked networking event advertised as "time to rest and rejuvenate". I think this is also the first time I've seen a gender-marked networking event so advertised, usually people prefer to lead with how you'll, like, make useful professional contacts.
However, house cleaning gift certificates make a *way* better door prize than random consumer electronics gadgets.
I just started reading Ijeoma Oluo's book (So You Want to Talk About Race). And had to stop to blink a few times when I got to:
"a lot of the racists holding white power signs aren't even registered to vote"
... this book was published in January of this year and it has not aged well?
I mean, I take her broader point, and I guess technically even the overt racists in political power are still at least slightly coded about it. But still. Blink.
I have transitioned to the phase of my cold where blowing my nose feels really good, but I have an officemate.
The moment where you feel a chunk gurgle out of one sinus into another. Aaah.
That cold I was trying to fight caught up with me on Friday. I slept a lot over the weekend.
Anyway the cool thing about trying to be useful at work while sick is remembering that Ritalin is also a decongestant. I had some pseudoephedrine already but more stimulants = more breathing.
Kinda makes me want to try Adderall again, just for science - it doesn't help my brain but maybe it'll help my nose.
