He/him. I think I'm a linguist. I'm pretty sure I'm into: Wheel of Time, JRPGs, language learning (CJK).

Random rules question for #magicthegathering

I have Drumbellower (untap your creatures during each opponent’s untap step), and then I cast Blinding Beam with the effect “creatures don’t untap during target player’s next untap step.” (I target my opponent.)

This means my creatures (and opp’s creatures) won’t untap during their next untap step?

I’m sorry ff15 came out 9 years ago???

Kind of wanted to see if the younger kid understood this instruction.

Me to the two kids: Okay, if you want to get out of the car, say “banana!”
5yo: Banana!
2.5yo: Banana!

I get out of the car and help the 5yo first. It takes several seconds to get them situated. When I come back to open the door for the 2.5yo, my wife says they’ve been saying “out! Banana! Out! Banana!” the whole time.

Oh dear. It seems Dr. Oz’s company sells Trump‘s big autism cure. What a crazy happenstance.

One of my favourite phenomena of the #German #language is when a series of prefixes and suffixes are added to a word and it ends up meaning more or less the same thing as the root word (and both are in use).

Begriff = term (as in, word for a thing)
begrifflich = terminological
Begrifflichkeit = terminologicality = term

Schein = certificate
bescheinigen = certify
Bescheinigung = certification = certificate

Honestly I just wish that Zuck continues having a streak of bad demo days. There are plenty of worse things to wish on someone like that, but I think bad demo days probably gnaws at him more than genocide.

Watched the latest @LoadingReadyRun Checkpoint and never more have I longed for the days when the stories were about labor disputes and corporate malfeasance. (Which to be clear, are horrible)

In the annals of unwieldy Oracle text for #magicthegathering, Call to Arms:

As this enchantment enters, choose a color and an opponent.

White creatures get +1/+1 as long as the chosen color is the most common color among nontoken permanents the chosen player controls but isn’t tied for most common.

Seems the actually restores the interpretation in the Ice Age printing that was lost in the mtgo Masters version.

Just noticed #magicthegathering updated “as long as it’s your turn” to “during your turn” (and sim for “not your turn”). Makes sense for readability, as it’s easy to miss the “not.”

And also it’s aligned with other references to entire parts of the turn cycle. Imagine “activate only as long as it’s the declare attackers step”!
