📝 Modern design loves visual consistency. But a suite where everything matches is a suite where nothing is exceptional.

Consistent icons ≠ iconic icons.

Give me a consistency of excellence any day over a consistency of visuals.

Consistency, But in Excellence Not Appearance

Writing about the big beautiful mess that is making things for the world wide web.

@stroughtonsmith That sound really unpredictable! I’m not a fan of the bars, I felt the floating looks was nice. And I’m still missing the separation of things like bottom toolbars. The buttons just sit there, muddled with the content below, but visually they look like they’re on the same level. Hope to see more tweaks to this… 🤞
Lack of Siri AI in Europe isn’t “funny”, but rather tragic. Sounds like EU should look at Japan’s regulation so we the end users can also benefit and not be hamstrung in important new developments.
Some inspiration! 😅 Milk used black borders with opacity so they’d be contrasty against any background.

The iOS 26 Liquid Glass buttons did their own thing, the new ones are more retro style and I guess we’ll see them tweak over the betas and see if Apple still know how to make lickable buttons that stand out from the content.

I think it’s just a matter of a uniform transparent black border and some shadows.

Not sure yet how I like the revised look of Liquid Glass in iOS 27.

I find the dark outline stroke too be too thin and faint at the top, it almost comes across as a scaling artifact.

And they’re not doing much with shadows and gradients any more, so the button just sits there, sometimes muddled by surrounding text with not much separation.

On iOS, I also preferred the barless look but now the nav bars are back when scrolled. They too don’t have much separation from the content, no shadows.

It’s a true pleasure working on this app with @maxrudberg. And we’ve only just started.

This update is in large parts thanks to @claesjacobsson who has stepped in as the new developer of the app. We’re doing this on a side project basis and any and all revenue is equally split between us and will directly result in more effort being invested in the app.
