@siracusa Fair enough. The original by the way is also “hand me the aux cord” including the drunken variations I’m more familiar with. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Hand%20me%20the%20aux%20cord
Urban Dictionary: Hand me the aux cord

“Hand Me the Aux Cord” is an expression used to request an auxiliary audio input cable in order to play music off a mobile device. On Twitter, the expression is often used to caption images of flaming vehicles.

@siracusa John, I don’t know what people much younger than me are doing but Millennials be like “give me the Aux” anywhere there’s an actual Aux cord involved, up to and including at the club with the DJ when you’re drunk enough to want to annoy him. Alternatives are “can you play that song?” Or “can I put on the next song” or “can I put on my music” or “look up this song”.

“Put it on Aux” sounds like it could be either an old or young person’s misinterpretation, or maybe regional?

@atpfm

@atpfm This was basically an Episode of Top 4 with @marcoarment cheating on Tiff with @siracusa and @caseyliss which per series tradition, nobody actually followed the ostensible rules and format of Top 4. Well done!

Accidental Tech Podcast: ATP Eats: Frozen Dinners

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

@gruber Only superficially and within topical bounds. Technically that’s a generalization, and technically HN contributors are just a motley disparate bunch of people like name a social network/society. The thing that makes HN different is that its biases skew differently than other forums, not because there’s any other particularly extraordinary quality about the place. At the end of the day it’s just another forum and voting system that expresses some kind of average of the day in ~30 links.
@gruber as to who you pissed off? Well not me, but I think it’s hard to be a writer with your style without pissing some people off and personally that’s something I like about your writing but that others hate; so I guess that includes a cross-section of people that are also active on HN.
@gruber Regarding the HN footnote on “Making Our Hearts Sing”, I doubt anyone at HN (i.e. dang) has a grind specifically against you, but as a frequent reader and commenter I could see you being in the crossroads for getting flagged all the way off the first page just by regular users. I’ve seen DF posts actually hit the front page and linger for a little while during slow times but they’re rarely there for long and that’s probably just a function of the user feedback mechanism.
