@gruber Regarding the HN footnote on “Making Our Hearts Sing”, I doubt anyone at HN (i.e. dang) has a grind specifically against you, but as a frequent reader and commenter I could see you being in the crossroads for getting flagged all the way off the first page just by regular users. I’ve seen DF posts actually hit the front page and linger for a little while during slow times but they’re rarely there for long and that’s probably just a function of the user feedback mechanism.
@gruber as to who you pissed off? Well not me, but I think it’s hard to be a writer with your style without pissing some people off and personally that’s something I like about your writing but that others hate; so I guess that includes a cross-section of people that are also active on HN.
@maximusplasmus Yeah but doesn't Hacker News seem like the sort of audience that doesn't mind arguing and reading opposing viewpoints?
@gruber Only superficially and within topical bounds. Technically that’s a generalization, and technically HN contributors are just a motley disparate bunch of people like name a social network/society. The thing that makes HN different is that its biases skew differently than other forums, not because there’s any other particularly extraordinary quality about the place. At the end of the day it’s just another forum and voting system that expresses some kind of average of the day in ~30 links.
