@tomxcd ‘94 - first installed some early redhat version distributed via CD on a computing mag when I was a teen. Here’s a screeny from about 10 years later when I was running ximian gnome
@inlovewithpda I had the series 3. It’s still around somewhere but completely non functioning anymore. Would love to go back to my teenage self and say “take better care of it” ☹️
@revk there’s a certain Harrogate datacentre where back in the day they expected me to ARP spoof the hosts behind my firewall as they had a flat network and didn’t want to subnet. That was a whole lotta fun when reverse arp filter wasn’t turned on 😂
@mattjames get off the internet and go fishing Matt!
@jpasski true, but only if your pointer is to a random location in the universe. we know the location, but only know it’s content until we access it; and then it turns out to be yet another rickroll. god is a silly bugger.
@stevelord fun fact about planned obsolescence include how Ford motor cars were so reliable in the early years, they contributed to a lack of buyers in the years leading up to the crash of 1929; and introduced obsolescence as a business model to keep buyers buying! The concept is obviously now prevalent everywhere to ensure buyers keep buying because what should be irreplaceable is always defunct and needs replacing in a few years. Unfortunately, pretty much every market works on the same idea
@dildog I read the article. Someone find me a knivussy to goussy kilussy meussy wiussy ffsussy
@lcamtuf imagine being the author of a seminal paper introducing a new concept, and 20 years later people reference it as prior art when introducing the same concept, but with an added crypto currency / “web3” angle
Why do we say “catapulted” ; where in fact it is mostly small to medium sized *dogs* who need any form of pulting - because cats can yeet themselves across a room easily, but dogs nairly so?
