Fantastic day at the Scottish Developmental Biology Group Meeting #SDBG.
Superstar PhD student Aisling Fairweather gave a talk on the Synthetic Developmental Biology toolbox for transgenesis and neighbour labelling that we've developed with @CellySally, and also won a poster prize to boot! 🏆
Thanks to the organisers for a wonderful day chatting about #DevBio, #stemcells, and #synbio in wonderful settings, and to the @BSDB for helping bring this meeting to life!

We've just released another set of peer reviewer trees in The Forest of Biologists.

Thanks to the important work of the peer reviewers for @Dev_journal, @J_Cell_Sci, @J_Exp_Biol, @DMM_Journal and @BiologyOpen, ancient woodland is being protected in Great Knott Wood.

Our latest work together with
Florian Halbritter is finally out, a tremendous amount of work relying on the heroic efforts of
Ingrid Saldana and Luis Montano with valuable contributions from 36 more co-authors: https://nature.com/articles/s41467-024-47945-7

I'm incredibly proud of our first year PhD student Aisling Fairweather who gave a magnificent talk today at #BSDBGenSoc2024

She presented new tools for genome engineering and cell neighbour-labelling in neural cells, built by Aisling and @matt_mala , and discussed how she will use them to study glioblastoma

There was a collective gasp of admiration from the audience when she showed her micropattered cell-based Kelpie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kelpies

Very thankful for the 🍫 (and kind words) from my Biotech3 class after our last tutorial of the year.

I've been monitoring #ChatGPT fingerprints that shouldn't have survived peer review 😲. The problematic papers published in non-predatory (?) journals make a corpus of 82 @PubPeer posts here: https://pubpeer.com/search?q=ChatGPT+AND+%28%22survived+proofreading%22+OR+%22trigger+scrutiny%22%29

A cautionary tale: a novel SynNotch receptor exhibits unexpected cross-reactivity with other cell surface molecules.
