Since "John Mastodon" has gone so viral here following Mediaite's confusion, I think, in the future, for those folks left on Twitter who want to secretly refer to Mastodon after Elon bans all mentions of it, just talk about "friends of John" as the code...
Elon being Elon is familiar -- so familiar that it's no longer even particularly grotesque. But Elon fans tying themselves in knots trying to explain how WELL ACTUALLY all of this is PERFECTLY CONSISTENT with free speech absolutism he promised . . . . well, that's showing some new lows in groveling and abasement.
There’s the Streisand Effect for you: A mystery buyer bought a Charlottesville weekly’s archives only to wipe them from the internet - apparently to erase several stories about rape allegations he faced in college. Now the Washington Post is writing about it. @mmasnick https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2022/12/14/hook-charlottesville-vanished-archive/
A newspaper vanished from the internet. Did someone pay to kill it?

The Hook, a Charlottesville weekly, closed in 2013 but web archives survived until 22,000 stories vanished in June. Speculation swirls around a mystery buyer.

Forbes is really bad at this.

“I got to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, it would’ve been armed.”

Did you know Monopoly was invented by a woman named Elizabeth Magie in 1903?

Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.

But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.

Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on. #history #women #HistoryRemix
