Feeling really down about #genai coding stuff. I've been trying it out here and there and there are a few things it is good at. It's like maybe 2% as good as the hype, but the hype is astronomical, so it's sorta ok sometimes.
I guess what makes me sad is that the trajectory is heading toward it being better and better at coding, to the point where doing it manually will eventually become an anachronism.
I really enjoy coding, had been hoping to teach it to my kids, etc. so now feeling lost.
Coding is fun and interesting for me, I don't understand why programmers seem so eager to let llms do it for them.

LLM chatbot coding seems a lot like masturbation; I'm not morally opposed to it, it has it's place, I think some people might be a little too addicted to it, and I really really don't want to hear you describe yourself doing it.
This year my birthday is on a Tuesday, and I didn't bother taking it off from work. I don't really care that much about my birthdays any more, but as I sit in meetings today, it made me think "is this what I'm spending my birthday doing?" which quickly made me also think "is this the best use of my limited life?"
I've gotten a couple of code review requests now that were clearly 100% done with AI and it's mildly infuriating in ways I can't quite articulate well.
