This from theatre company RashDash about not becoming an Arts Council NPO (national portfolio organisation - aka properly funded arts org) and the (insurmountable) challenges of making vital work and living a, decent life in the arts. Their honesty here is a gift ❤️❤️

@babab each server has its own community rules. Home.social (this server) has its guidelines and info here https://home.social/about. Its guiding principle is the same as Bill & Ted’s - be excellent to one another. FWIW each server also maintains its own list of which other servers will be federated to it so can block that content from being picked up.
HOME.social

Hosted fully redundant in Germany. Committed to speed & availability. For people who want to be excellent to each other. English and German. Operated for the community by Rottmann Ventures GmbH.

Mastodon hosted on home.social
@babab the fediverse is the informal name for services that are designed to work in this way.
@babab sure. It describes the way in which Mastodon works and how it is different from something like twitter. M is not a single service but rather a bunch of different organisations using a shared set of rules to speak to each other. So posting on the site home.social can be read and followed from any other mastodon site (like mastodon.social). Email is an example of something federated. You can send and receive emails to your gmail from any other provider because of the shares set of rules.

Hello Mastodonners! The org I co-run, New_ Public, is organizing a learning session for folks new to Mastodon and the fediverse this coming Tuesday at 12pm ET. We'll be joined by the brilliant @cfiesler @wilf and @jeffjarvis -- and you are welcome too.

Noobs (like me) who want to learn and long-timers are all welcome. Sign up here, and boost if you're willing to help find other interested folks. https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIvc--uqzIrGd3viRbTltC0dXmDkaidAJc-?_x_zm_rtaid=we6EIiy7SVC4ko6U7Unicw.1668089335856.e548e65efba05ec79cde9656bf3f20a1&_x_zm_rhtaid=249

Just a reminder to all the new arrivals here:

These instances are NOT commercial entities like #Twitter ... someone is paying the bills for servers and networking, and the massive influx of people like us are raising those costs enormously.

Be a good citizen, checkout the "About this server" link, and if you can, make a donation towards costs.

@nedglasier I’m going to be interested to see how communities emerge and identify around the different servers and whether one becomes an assembling place for theatre arts and artists. There does seem to be potential in the different scopes of connection and engagement on here. I guess a curious technically minded person can apply for a grant to set one up and we can all literate over to it.
@EmmaByrneAuthor are DMs a thing on here?
@EmmaByrneAuthor doing good. Bit of cyber frontiering. Staking my claim on another corner of the internet!
