‘Do People Your Age …?’

On the eve of 57, no less. * * * * I’ve strolled past enough of life’s temporal landmarks—birthdays that end in zero or five, or the first time someone called me “sir,” or w…

Mark Aldrich on Instagram: "Five years ago today, my dad, William Robert Aldrich, died of Covid-19 in the first few months of the pandemic. The photo below is from his last birthday, when he turned 84 and I joked that he still had many years to catch up to his parents--his father lived to be 91 and his mother lived to 98. A poet in Kentucky, our dear friend @marthagreenwaldwriter, built an online space in 2021 for those of us who lost loved ones to Covid to write and publish our memories and express everything we need to express and can express. So many contributed that two years ago today an anthology of our essays and memories and dreams titled "Who We Lost" ( @whowelostusa) was published. One of my pieces is in the book, which you can still purchase from the publisher and through all the finest booksellers. It remains the first piece of writing by me that I've seen in a book. I would rather see my dad on his 90th birthday in August than have this publication credit. Two years ago today, we held a public reading at Q.E.D. Astoria, which is the second photo. Several friends and loved ones traveled to Queens to support me and the book: Jennifer, Gregory, Chris, Domnic, Steph Kelly, Adrianne, Ed. I think the video of the reading is still on Facebook. It was a coincidence that the publication date was my dad's anniversary, but it was meaningful for me. In honor of my dad's anniversary, Who We Lost published a new piece by me today: https://whowelost.org/read-their-stories/entry/1678/?gvid=2965 . Thank you to Martha and Who We Lost. The website has published a few things from me over the years. It's a tough day for my mom, Rena, my sister, Michelle, and me, but it is a day filled with love nonetheless."

Pandemic Diary: Just a Box of Rain

I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith But the faith and the …

Meteor Shower alert: The Geminids meteor shower peaks during tonight and tomorrow night, 13/14 Dec. A live stream from a receiver detecting reflections from a distant analogue TV transmitter on 61.26 MHz is now on Youtube. I used to do this type of detection 10-20 years ago when analogue TV was common in Europe.

Sadly the locations of TX and RX are not disclosed, but I presume the RX is in one of the southern US states, detcting signals from a Central American TV transmitter.
