Asking for a friend (really): "do you know any Android geniuses that specialize in recovering lost or corrupted data? My friend has a Samsung tablet - data backed up to the Samsung cloud, but restore won’t work. He’s lost about a years worth of data - unless someone can help."

Asker is willing to pay for expertise. Anyone know anyone likely?

Audio interview with mining reporter Blair McBride who just happened to fly over Eagle Gold mine before & after the heap leach slide failure. Full points for refusing to speculate where he doesn't have information, even when pressed. At 38min mark

Blair's corresponding print article:

Tilting rather strongly greenie it's not kind of thing I listen to, in spite of my dear mining bro's enthusiasms. 😆 This side trip I'm okay having made.

🎲 I created a new programming game. It's called

2222

"Two twenty-two two”

You program the game yourself, in *any* programming system. Then you play it.

The code is incredibly simple. You can do it in 3 blocks of Scratch.

It takes about 22 minutes to play. You will very likely burst out laughing while playing. When you finish the game, you will feel utterly bizarre. You can play the game by yourself, or in a group.

Good luck, have fun!

Overcoming the incentive to dunk on “users” behavior is an important element in maturing your security understanding. You have a set of levers to pull. Human nature is not one of them. Deal with that or be a righteous failure.

Very nice blog post on the hardware of the #CanonCat: http://oldvcr.blogspot.com/2024/05/refurb-weekend-canon-cat.html

What I find interesting every time I read about it, is how close it’s conceptually to #Emacs.

Refurb weekend: Canon Cat

It's the Memorial Day holiday weekend and it's time for a little deferred maintenance, especially on those machines I intend to work on more...

@requiem sadly, now 404. Not that safe after all! (but also, status quo for the internet we've built so far).

@cstross Reminds of the Canon Cat c.1987, the best computer I've never had:

"As easy to use as a toaster. When you want to set down an idea, you should be able to go to your computer… and just start typing: no booting, no opening the word processor, no file names, no operating system”
-- Jef Raskin, creator of the Cat and principle Mac lead.

In #Pomera we see a modern hardware company working in this same spirit. Bravo!

Quick question, but *without looking it up*, do you know what "Rinoa's Rule" is and/or refers to?

Boosts appreciated, trying to get a sense of how prevalent the idiom is outside my own bubble. Thank you!
