Some wonderful pothole tile art around an ever-relevant Tom Robbins quote as seen during a beautiful evening stroll.

Microsoft, 2026: We promise the native search function will finally find software you just downloaded yesterday over slopmade ad-filled games you don't even have installed.

The Windows Insider mailing list sent an email today begging people to stick with them as they attempt to course correct on the mindless proliferation of Copilot and refocus on the overall experience of the OS through "being thoughtful about how and where we bring AI into Windows".

It specifically mentions they'll be "reducing unnecessary Copilot entry points, starting with apps like" Notepad, Snipping Tool, Photos, and Widgets.

So sorry babes, but Hot Girl Linux Summer is already afoot~

Today is another reminder of the countless women—many of whom have, to society's incredible detriment, already self-selected themselves out of tech in part due to these behaviors—who are sitting on information that, in a perfect world, would reverse the hero worship too many have for certain men in this industry, including your darlings.

But they don't, because it won't.

Putting the ring light on full blast and submitting myself to the surveillance state hoping the algorithm will tell me I look 17 again just to feel something.

Today Discord announced that starting next month, users will have to upload photos for a "facial age estimate" or send a "form of identification" to a third party vendor to continue using the full app after it took less than six months for a vendor breach to impact minors required to comply with ID photos last year.

Please move your communities off of it.

Hire disabled folks. Hire actual accessibility experts.
Are there any experiences similar to Occupy White Walls that use RSS to pull in art, code, and music feeds so folks can focus on creating and curating their galleries?

I need to be very clear, that the push towards "vibe coding" - that is, deliberately deskilling people - is because AI code assistants are an (increasingly expensive) subscription service.

If you know how to code, you can just write Python, C, Java, R, PHP, whatever for free and make things. You may not own the tools of production, but at least you're not renting them.

If you have been deskilled so you only know how to vibe code, you will be paying for that privilege forever.

This also goes, by the way, for researchers who are starting to be convinced they don't need to learn how to be scientists anymore, because "the AI" can just do the science for them. Nope.
