@North The worst is thinking of a grand, illuminating idea tuned for your own brain, then forgetting it the rest of your life.
why would there be a deviled egg on the window sill if you weren't supposed to eat it

This is what it looked like, with bonus old data. I would clear scratch.dat when it got too long. Editing notes was just editing the file.
In 2004, I had a scrounged Linux server running in my closet. I grew frustrated with needing to transfer snippets of info between computers and keep notes that I could access from any device, and this small PHP script was something I actively used. All it did was print out a file and append whatever was in a text box to that same file.
@ancientjames There's probably a different audience that would appreciate 6 hour no-talking supercut of just tapping holes
@davedarko Just ancient DS1202 hereditary things. Imagine the time of BCD to 7-segment driver chips. With some shift registers and logic, you could display the time directly from the RTC.
@petrillic @stargirl I actually forgot I was using Witch Hazel Hypercolor, because for the past couple years that just IS how VSCode looks. Nothing else will do.

@hyc @ibboard PRML is using known information about system response to cheat noise and Nyquist a little bit. The output is also driving towards a deterministic result which can be error-checked and discarded if wrong.

It's easy and common to confirm whether a piece of data or a computation is uncorrupted. But there's no possible self-contained way to calculate the correctness of what that data represents.

@drfootleg I've seen those on occasion. The one you linked seems interesting because it does appear to be actual uranium glass, I have seen others that are just woo-woo patterns etched on a piece of plastic or something.
