My 1st cover story! For New Scientist about experiments that are close to telling us if spacetime is quantized. And a Q&A with a physicist who is simulating space-time from scratch!

Is space-time quantum? Six ways to unpick the fabric of the universe

One of the biggest questions in physics asks whether space-time is classical or quantum in nature. From slow neutrinos to quantum foam, these experiments are hoping to finally answer it

A bit late to the party, but here's what the solar eclipse looked like from the Bay Area on Saturday morning! I was fighting the clouds the entire time.

I captured an alien!!!

The blue supermoon!

For those who may not have seen recent news stories: you get a blue moon whenever there are 2 full moons in the same month. Coincidentally, the moon was at its closest point last night (because the Earth's orbit is elliptical). This won't happen again until 2037. It's not a big deal astronomy-wise, but still a fun observation to make!

@aliceschwarze Big news that I missed! Congrats!!! I remember those days, totally fair game.
@ct_bergstrom I bought an album by The Beyonce today!
Another photo from the #Perseids meteor shower. This was Coyote Valley, where volunteers were handing out glow bracelets to the hundreds of people who showed up to catch the shower. I saw quite a few before we left!
I saw 2 fireballs and a bunch of smaller meteorites at the #Perseids meteor shower this year! When we got home, I set the camera on the roof to take pictures and it caught this one around 4am.

"Like a bright city in the middle of a barren desert, our galactic neighborhood is enveloped by a cosmic void — an enormous, almost unfathomably empty pocket of space."

My latest for Quanta Magazine!

How (Nearly) Nothing Might Solve Cosmology’s Biggest Questions | Quanta Magazine

By measuring the universe’s emptiest spaces, scientists can study how matter clumps together and how fast it flies apart.
