Moving to masto.ai
Just had a look through my old mastodon posts since 2018. Turns out 99% is crossposting from twitter including RT's, so it's probably safe to a) delete my old posts b) move to a smaller instance
Funny how we all have come to see 'social' media like twitter and instagram as public services in the last ten years or so, while we could have known they're just sucking us
If I were you, I'd request my twitter archive, enable 2 factor authentication, and get the hell outta here....
Reading about the Mastodon/Fediverse ActivityPub protocol: funny that back in 2018 @violeta and I wrote something about using ActivityPub and similar protocols in library and scholarly communication focused on authority records for creators: https://doi.org/10.31219/osf.io/hbwf8
This a very good description of the current situation and moods in the fediverse/mastodon by @hugh "Home invasion" https://www.hughrundle.net/home-invasion/
Home invasion - Mastodon's Eternal September begins

The fediverse is dealing with a huge wave of Twitter people bringing toxic ideas with them.

#twittermigration Downloaded my twitterarchive (again!) - Set my account to private - No more crossposting - Mastodon handle in my bio... So far so good
#instances When I signed up for mastodon.social in 2018, everything was new, there wasn't much to choose. Otherwise, because of my work I would have probably chosen openbiblio.social or code4lib.social. But my interests are very broad: art, music, books, film, history, maps, archaeology, linguistics (besides linked open dataπŸ˜€). Since my retirement I don't do much with linked open data anymore. So I have decided mastodon.social is perfect for me, although it is very big. I'm open for you all!
#introduction I worked with library systems, digital infrastructure, linked open data for the Library of the University of Amsterdam. I was active in IGeLU, the Ex Libris User Group, among others as initiator of the Linked Open Data Group. I was a member of the ELAG conference program committee.
Since I retired I spend time on personal interests cartography and urban history, currently focusing on the history of urban convents in the Dutch Republic. See the links in my bio for more information.
