dont EVER sleep under your covers. I started tracking my in-closet bed CO2 parts per million and the results are interesting. You can see CO2 jump from 500 to 600ppm when I go to bed at 1am. In the morning I did some reading under the covers for a while which I usually find calming— but maybe due to actual sedation. When I extended the covers to over the sensor, it detected 3.5k ppm, which is well over the safe limit (mental decline can be detected in cognitive tests at a threshold of 1900ppm)
I’m a little disappointed by the Thelemic vision of occultism. The tarot cards are pretty. The book covers are cool. I expected something that would at least bend and deceive any rational tendencies, convince me of hidden magick patterns too beautiful to deny as mundanity. Unfortunately, the first popular book I pulled off the shelf is completely vapid. Is there any model of occultism that takes itself seriously enough to faze my synicism? I don’t expect it to convince me, I just would enjoy it if it convinced part of me.

Mostly asking because I realized tarot cards are fun and I want relevant lore. Is there anyone on Fedi who might have found the content overlap of occult x metaphorical relevance such that it’s worth reading?

it’s okay if it’s not perfect. bc the stuff I just read is actual nonesense with zero substantiation and ugly conflation of nonrelated religious ideas. Anything would be better
why are all the other people my age in tight friend groups and supporting each other and being cool and intellectual and stuff and I'm just out here building stupid apps by myself

Speaking of which, I made this realtime chat application which is better than any chat app you've used probably maybe. you can go to any page and it already exists, and you can link them like this: https://www.latent.toys/t/main

Why is it better than other chats? well, you can see people typing their message live before they send it, which captures a significantly more nuanced amount of tonal information and expression, while also allowing you to start replying to their message before it's finished. It's just more efficient and feels more personal.

Also, there are infinite channels. It's a library of infinite chats that you can explore. Hopefully it will some day be feature complete like other modern chat apps, but for the mean time I knew you'all fediverse people will probably be into it. latent.toys

i can't believe I have lived my entire 21 year life without a single close friend in the real physical world who I felt understood me. It just feels so wrong. and it's weird because on paper it seems like I should have so many. As far as I can tell there's nothing really wrong with me, besides being an actual schizo but like the -typal kind and not the -phrenic degree.

anyway sorry, fediverse is just where I come to vent because I know it won't / or probably won't leak it's way back into the rest of my life. Hopefully I'm not ruining your timelines.
i feel like I want to connect to people in my sphere but when I reach out I feel like often I'm not reciprocated. It's entirely possible that I'm not trying hard enough and actually other people feel like I'm disinterested in them or something. But I look around me and there's so many cool people who I have so much in common with and I would love to just nerd out on stuff we're creating or hang out and philosophize or just be dumb. But my three years in SF with only a handful of close friendships seems to be evidence that I'm just not good at this. It's funny because I have an unlimited amount of 'acquaintances' and 'colleagues', but only a few people who I'm sort of close with. I'm literally antisocial though so makes sense idk what i expected.
if i killed myself i’d probably just be reincarnated as another depressed and unloved being and it would be pointless.
they fr should not have let just anyone post on the internet
It’s really unfortunate that humans aren’t evolved to intuitively comprehend or fear species level existential risk because we ofc have never encountered the consequences of any such risk
I’ve been building discord bots and other llm powered software recently and doing some things that I think are fairly new strategies for getting value out of llms

I think the future of llm powered software, at least the kind I’m interested in right now, is gonna be “llm social engineering” — prompt engineering as first conceived is a real thing but it’s pretty weak, it can only do so much because you’re just depending on one perfect comprehension of one prompt every time, not reliable. It’s the brunt of many jokes. Basically you’re depending on the LLM to do the thought structuring that leads to a good outcome. But usually efficient thinking around specific problems is best framed with specific logical strategies interspersed with more organic decisionmaking/observation.

So, in this case, connecting multiple (ofc highly nondiscreet vector spacey) LLMs in a logical/discreetly structured network with different specific prompts modifying their behavior is going to be a far more efficient solution than just presenting a higher end LLM thread with a more comprehensive prompt and hoping it always does the logical structure work right- nah you can just make it implicit and save compute + be more reliable.

its basically doing end-product Mixture of Experts stuff

but it’s also very analagous to organization / network / social engineering
I should probably lay off the DMT after that one that was completely horrifying.
