for #freecadfriday some screenshots of my record lathe as it's nearing completion and release. can't wait to port this over to 1.0 once it's out and make use of all the assembly features
@jeffeb3 yeah, it's completely built from scratch using mostly off the shelf parts, some 3d printing, concrete casting, laser cutting and some lathe work. It's a three axis machine, one rotary axis for the table and two linear axis for moving the head left and right and up and down. It's not really sensitive to external noise but it is sensitive to vibrations. Running a desk fan on the same table is definitely audible. All the motors are vibration isolated with 3d printed TPU dampers.

making records for @kkto and https://dreamanderror.com/ which opens tomorrow! you should go check it out if you're in berlin, it's really cool and there will be books with these records inside! and I might be there too, spoons permitting

EDIT: I have just been informed that the records won't be in the books but will be separate, which is good for people who hate reading I guess…

@elfin demanded I post this from @slyka

"Finally, Music on CDs!"

Or in the words of @Doridian "It's CD quality, of course!"

Uh, I also got two more color combinations, an all red and all blue tones one. I’m hyped for the blue one, it’s so ocean-y ~ 🥺
Not sure how clear this is from the first post. All liquids have different viscosities and won’t mix, meaning, that they all will flow, trying to be separated by gravity, creating these lovely blob shapes. It’s a gentle process and very trippy and random. Now, by slowly rotating the disk, this process can be stimulated

Did I already show these colored oil-disks (“lava lamp projector disks” I think?) that I got for ligra? :>

it’s a glass disk with two chambers with several, non-mixing, colored fluids inside, that will create super lovely bubble-textures! I think this was invented by the same company that invented the lava-lamp. They also sell such disks.

Now I need to design a fit that can also rotate the disk in this half-ligra. It’s too large for all four metal beams :D

Ordered some Gobo-Stencils to test them with ligra. As expected, they are great, super crisp and nice contrast :3

Furthermore I tried to stack one with a printed stencil which, due to the change in focal plane in front of the lens will be out of focus. The effect is a banger!
Can’t wait to try this with colored shapes to create a depth-effect landscape :O

I got the chance to bring my ligras to a small and wonderful music-festival over the weekend, it worked out great! Didn’t take many pictures, I was occupied with dancing :3
