Maybe if Microsoft Teams lures all the bad design decisions into a single application....

... we can make a decisive attack, trap all those bad designs at once, and lock them in a box which noone should ever open again.

Israel is starving to death 2 million people in Gaza. Do something, do anything, just please don’t be silent.

Spain power cuts - fortunately we are somewhat prepared with solar electricity, cash supplies, 15000 litres of water storage, fuel in car & about a months worth of dehydrated meals šŸ˜†. In case of a zombie apocalypse šŸ§Ÿā€ā™‚ļøor natural disaster we also have walkie talkies, LoRa radios & I have been developing off-grid networks (experimenting with #Meshtastic, #Meshcore & #Reticulum) 🤣.

Bit of a wake up call though - prepare for these events no matter how far fetched they seem. They can and do happen.

My honest opinion: Taxpayer money should be spent wisely. That means investing in #opensource software, not expensive proprietary technology. Better value, more transparency, and no vendor lock-in.

According to Twitter's (sometimes known as X) transparency report (mandated by the EU), it lost 11 million users in the European Union in the last five months.

Elon Musk's X lost 11 million users in the EU over the past 5 months

Millions of people in France and Germany have left X, according to X itself.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but if every four years you must vote to keep out fascism, you’re not living in a democracy, you’re living under siege.

Tolerance cannot tolerate intolerance. Either democracies have constitutional protections (and a system of democratic institutions to enforce them) to ensure fascism can never be voted into power or they are just fascisms in waiting.

After 14 hours without electricity in most of Spain, we are now back online in #Granada. Lots of panic here in the city. Some decided to make the most of it and party, some decided to prepare for the worst and look after their closest. Some worried about work and deadlines. Some played cards and admired the stars. Among other things, I helped an elderly neighbour break back into her apartment with an old London Transport Oyster card.

Lots of questions remain ...

It is worth remembering that Luis von Ahn is one of the 'inventors' of CAPTCHAs, which of course are a very efficient way to collect complex human judgments for AI training. So no surprise here.

Duolingo will replace contract workers with AI

So, reddit has banned those researchers of Uni Zurich who tried manipulating folks with LLMs, and the ethics commission said this:

«In light of these events, the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences intends to adopt a stricter review process in the future»

*sigh* I'm not surprised that the ethics board is trying to wash it's hands off this beyond this boiler plate statement. Makes me wonder how the biomedical ethics Board would have viewed this…

Reddit Issuing 'Formal Legal Demands' Against Researchers Who Conducted Secret AI Experiment on Users

Reddit called it an "improper and highly unethical experiment" and said it did not know it was happening.
