Several weeks into the #TwitterMigration it seems clear to me the value of Mastodon is not that it is a Twitter replacement, but that it is a gateway technology to decentralization. Mastodon has flaws, I'm not claiming it's perfect, but many criticisms I've seen stem from expecting centralized services from a decentralized structure. It's up to us to try and explain the differences and set expectations for what alternative services can look like.
It is the job of government to insulate us from the pain of recession, not to exacerbate it.
Come to think of it, it is the job of government to prevent recession, not cause it.

Even within austerity, Chancellor has choices: smooth curve of cuts and gradual debt reduction VS front-loading pain, to give Sunak room for a faux-mini-recovery and ‘giveaways’ before next election. Hunt plans to do the wrong thing *and in the wrong way*.

Austerity kills people. Last decade of cuts resulted in 335,000 excess deaths. Causing unnecessary misery to improve a PM’s election prospects is profoundly wicked.

Over 300,000 ‘excess’ deaths in Great Britain attributed to UK Government austerity policies

Recent evidence has shown people across the UK are dying younger as a result of austerity, with people living in the poorest areas hardest hit. A new study published today now quantifies the scale of these deaths.

...but regarding cat / pet photos: Do we think every post should include at least one?😉

What’s more cringey than a Matt Hancock bushtucker trial? The Tory MPs voting for it

These MPs have found their imaginary backbones only when he is washed up, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

Good morning world. A good day for democracy in th USA. However having checked the UK headlines it’s depressing to see the usual papers declaring Rishi is bringing back Thatcherism. Didn’t work in the 80s, Lizzie Dripping’s version cost the county £30B so why does he think this version will work? There’s no oil, council houses or national industries to sell off to pay for tax cuts , so it just cuts to public spending and tax rise that are left. The lady’s turning in her grave!
@YorkshireBylines This behavior is why I'm here on Mastodon. Very concerning!

@Ted boosted. This is it people.

Ever been to the doctor's?
Ever called 101?
Ever been to A&E?

You should be boosting if you answered yes to any of those questions...

Great article.
