Good morning world. A good day for democracy in th USA. However having checked the UK headlines it’s depressing to see the usual papers declaring Rishi is bringing back Thatcherism. Didn’t work in the 80s, Lizzie Dripping’s version cost the county £30B so why does he think this version will work? There’s no oil, council houses or national industries to sell off to pay for tax cuts , so it just cuts to public spending and tax rise that are left. The lady’s turning in her grave!
@1505helen magical thinking is what Thatcherism has become -shorn of the supports provided by the fire-sale privatisations.
@1505helen I fear the NHS is next in line.
Harold McMillan criticised Thatcher for privatisation of assests - ‘selling the family silver’. Once assets are gone, there is nothing left to sell, or at least nothing worth selling.
@Djofull I fear you may be correct in thinking the NHS will be next. They’ve already run the service onto the rocks, made people think it’s failing, so they can then present a private alternative. Which will be fine for anyone who can afford it or who gets private medical insurance as a work perk. The rest of us will quickly find it’s another awful choice to make: heating, eating or medication/medical treatment.
