For a woman with cancer in the seat next to you.

For your child’s teacher.

For grandpa who has gotten this far without #Covid19.

For a co-worker who is pregnant.

For a stranger next to you on the bus who has #LongCovid.

For the rest of us (we’re all vulnerable).

School starts Monday and books by and about LGBTQ+ people remain in the curriculum for everyone. In Maryland, you don't get to pretend we don't exist even if some other states would like to send us back into the closet.

Breaking news: Brazil makes homophobia punishable by prison 🗞️

In an almost unanimous vote, the Brazilian High Court has ruled today that homophobia can now be punishable with a prison sentence

This is a huge win for the LGBTQ+ community in Brazil that needs to be celebrated 🇧🇷

The 9-1 vote ruled that homophobic slurs and hate speech are a crime, similar to other forms of hate speech, such as racism.

Because we used to have leaves
and on damp days
our muscles feel a tug,
painful now, from when roots
pulled us into the ground

and because our children believe
they can fly, an instinct retained
from when the bones in our arms
were shaped like zithers and broke
neatly under their feathers

THIS MADE ME PROUD!

About a dozen parents and supporters gathered outside Orange County Public Schools’ downtown headquarters to announce the start of Parenting with Pride, a new program launched by Equality Florida to combat conservative organizations like Moms for Liberty, which have pushed for new laws and policies that progressive activists fear have already begun to harm LGBTQ and minority students.

In a country where nearly every iota of our psyches and our physical spaces has been captured for the purpose of generating a profit, the ongoing existence of public libraries feels not just radical, but astonishing. https://www.niemanlab.org/2023/08/are-libraries-the-future-of-news/
Are libraries the future of news?

FACT SHEET: Biden-Harris Administration Takes Action to Protect Renters | The White House

Over 44 million households, or roughly 35 percent of the U.S. population, live in rental housing. But our nation’s rental market is defined by a patchwork of state and local laws and legal processes that leave far too many renters with little recourse when housing providers fail to comply with the law or the lease…

President Carter put solar panels on the White House, Reagan tore them down after taking office, and the White House remained without solar for some time. Imagine what our energy and climate situation would look like from the 80s on if we’d had Presidents who thought long term.
