@ryangorley @Mastodon the Fediverse works the best with small and medium sized instances. Large instances have the tendency to fail as we have seen with identi.ca or qvitter. The damage of those outages is much higher. So yes, a small instance is good. If you allow others then yourself having accounts up thete, you are responsible for the moderation (or not, depending on your view). Unmoderated instances might get blocked relatively fast, independent of their size.
