Y’all, if you’re getting frustrated you’re not seeing the content you want to like news or intel you need on Mastodon, you really need to shift your thinking from algorithmic social media. Follower counts don’t matter much here. Likes do not matter to post reach. Without your interaction, you will just see a live FIFO firehose. Some quick fixes:
Hashtag your posts liberally and consistently, and follow key hashtags of interest to you. Hashtags matter a ton here to being seen.
Follow and also alert on accounts you always want to see content from.
Consider using the built in RSS feature for your feeds and for specific hashtags.
Consider switching to the more advanced UI in your preferences, so you can watch multiple filtered and unfiltered feeds. Or a different mobile app.
Use Fedifinder to follow all the accounts you followed on Twitter, and sync up your follow and block lists.
Avail yourself of the multiple public lists of hundreds of journalist accounts on Mastodon.
Loving the proper conversation here rather than endless self-promotion 🤘.
So here’s another question for the @synths #modularsynth nerds out there! Maybe cos I’m laid low with not-Covid I’ve been exploring creating a *small* modular set up. I have 2 semi-mod synths (Crave + Mavis). Any recommendations for entry-level cases (eg Rackbrute 3U)? Mavis will fit #eurorack but Crave won’t which is fine. Sizing up a couple of modules too.
INTRODUCTION
Hi All
I’m Manchester (UK) based and been involved in many areas of music, mainly electronic and experimental, over the past 30 years plus.
In current years I’ve created a series of ‘A Pocket Guide to…’ albums using field recordings as source sound for music compositions.
I’m also a member of the electronic-guitar duo SCISSORGUN with Alan Hempsall and the electronic-classical duo SPECTRAL BAZAAR with cellist, Ruth Davies.
More info about my music is in my About tab.
Thanks x
@y6nH I'm starting a new Mastodon server specifically for musicians and would love it if you joined. The idea is for everyone there to actually be making music (and hopefully sharing it regularly!), so there's a place where you can always find new stuff to listen to.
I'm keeping registrations open but requiring manual approval to ensure users fit this intent.

Thanks for all the replies so far - I’ll reply to each one. Really interesting to understand people’s approaches.
If it’s useful to mention - I do use a DAW (Ableton Live) but am trying to use it more for storing / editing midi clips, recording the output from external synths and guitars, plus some additional FX processing. I record layers and combine and edit. Occasionally will use Operator/Analog for simple parts, plus the Arturia ARP2600 / Farfisa. Otherwise mainly analogue.
