As an experiment I tried pickling some water melon peel a few weeks ago. I am quite happy with the result, the melon is a lot like cucumber but brings its own sweetness. Next time I want to try leaving the peel on.

However, it is too sour for my taste. Is anyone experienced with pickling around and has some advice for me? I used 3:2 cider vinegar to water, how much can I reduce the vinegar, or is sugar my main route for reducing how sour it tastes? #pickle #cooking

The new crochet project is breaking my brains 🤪
I think it will become a scarf?

Close to the finish line, my Icelandic wool project is driving me up the walls. Adding the finishing pattern is taking forever 🫠
Love how the colours came together though, it is huge and heavy and based on how warm it lies on my lap, I will never be cold again.

Could not resist the merch. Good time was had.
Craving brownies but with beetroot (can’t really explain why, I love when sweet has a bit of savoury I guess?). My second attempt was too much like cake rather than brownies again, so I think rather than integrating the beetroot in the dough I will just make brownies but they will have cubed beetroot pieces in addition to chocolate chunks.
Advice is welcome. I do not have a metal brownie tray.
It did look really pretty going into the oven though.
Check out some of the birds I got to watch while on winch duty! Mobile phone photos can’t really do the spectacle of them justice. #aotearoa #SO309
To be honest, I was a little disappointed to learn that these sweets are airplanes and not, as I first imagined, bird footprints. Somehow that just fit the whole New Zealand native birds theme so well ☺️😅
We left port today and I got so far my closest look of a pilot leaving the ship in choppy conditions. Impressive team work!
I learned that people around here cut open giant kelp and cook inside it (?!) and that kelp can confuse geologists by taking big rocks for a ride in a sea current.
We had a wonderful visit by dolphins 🐬, so close that I could hear their echo sounds and their breath. The key ROV test passed. And finally a beautiful sunset behind the outline of #aotearoa on the horizon.
I have tape to hide my tits, tape to decorate my tits, and now I also have tit tape.
Progress update. Memories of Iceland and FS Maria S Merian are worked into this piece.
