This entire report from the Ontario government on genAI systems is worth a read, but the review of healthcare scribe accuracy is pretty devastating, imo. This has to work for the tech to be worth anything. If the notes in the chart are wrong, the whole thing falls apart.

Not surprised at all with these results.
I would be very interested in a follow up study on doctors who use these services, or have used them, with a review of real notes to determine whether doctors actually proof read for accuracy and make corrections (assuming edits are tracked).

My younger sister was executor for our parents and is executor for several friends and family members. This is her list of what should be done to reduce stress on those dealing with your aftermath.

Some people think that venture capital is a fundamentally evil business structure. I disagree.

Thought experiment:
If you could press a button tomorrow, that would cause 50% of the entire population of the continent of Africa to die within 5 years😮, but would 50X your profits and create dozens of trillion dollar companies, and help humanity become interplanetary 10 years earlier, would you press it?

If you're on this weird little Mastodon thing reading this, then you are most likely:
1) A technologist of some sort
2) Not a genocidal maniac

So you would of course say no.

Some of you suspect that I'm going to *imply* that many VCs would say yes. But I'm not going to imply anything. I don't have to. Because many of these VCs have written papers and blog posts under their real names, celebrating the fact that they believe that it's wrong *not* to press that button.🤦🏿‍♂️

The problem with VC is neither the profit motive, nor the business structure.

The problem is that the vast majority of the funds that our entire society uses to solve hard problems, are controlled and allocated by people that believe that it is their duty to create new buttons like the one above, and then mash it repeatedly.

My township makes announcements and whatnot on Facebook. If it is a long post, you can only see so much before logging in. So, if I want to get information about my local government, I have to ask Mark Zuckerberg.

Something is very, very wrong with that.

Vultures eat anthrax, botulism, rabies, & cholera for breakfast.

Their stomach acid is among the most corrosive in the animal kingdom, with a pH around 1, low enough to dissolve the bones, hide, & pathogens of dead animals that would kill almost anything else.

A vulture eating a diseased carcass isn't a vector for disease, it's the end of the line. The disease chain ends in the vulture's gut, & that's pretty hardcore.

When vulture populations crashed in India in the 1990s, rotting livestock carcasses sat where vultures used to clean them.

Feral dogs and rats took over the cleanup, both of which actually do spread rabies. Researchers later linked the vulture collapse to roughly 500,000 deaths in India over the following decade.

The same collapse is now underway in sub-Saharan Africa. 6 of 11 African vulture species are threatened with extinction, primarily from poisoned poaching baits.

The animals nobody finds cute are doing more public health work than most of the species we actively protect.

Today, the NDP is calling on the Carney government to implement a national ban on surveillance pricing - before it becomes a predatory new normal in Canadian life.

Canadians are already being squeezed by the untenable cost of living. It’s time to stop the practice dead in its tracks.

Comments are due to the FCC on Mon for Blue Origin's copycat of SpaceX's fucking stupid orbital data center idea. Comments were due yesterday for the first SpaceX copycat: Starcloud (I hate everything about it, including the name). I was in chaotic travel mode for most of that and so had to rely on colleagues.

Now I have to read these fucking docs to see what bullshit Blue Origin is serving up, so time to rant about it.
