We could be heroes

#Firefly Reunification

Am I disappointed that it's going to be animated? Well sure. But here's why I'm supporting it anyway:

1. Two days ago, people were saying it was going to be bobbleheads, and now they're annoyed that it's not a live-action show. We can't always get everything we want. I wanted a pony for Christmas when I was five, but I didn't get one. C'est la vie.

2. Two of the characters are dead. One of them for real, the other within the universe. Any continuation would have taken place without my personal favorite character, which would have been realistic, but sad. This way, he continues to be a part of it. And theoretically, so does the other deceased character, even though he'll have to be recast with a different voice actor.

3. I get to potentially see some incomplete storylines finished. There are several loose ends that I really wanted to see tied up. I'm hoping this will be my opportunity.

4. I refuse to hate something that hasn't happened yet. That's like the people who protested Dogma, literally while standing next to Kevin Smith with his protest sign, without actually recognizing him. If we haven't seen it yet, maybe we shouldn't make assumptions. If it sucks, it sucks, but I'd rather decide whether or not I liked it AFTER I see it. I know quite a few people who raved about the new Star Wars films, which I felt were all nostalgia and no substance. To each their own. I'm just happy that many of the fans were happy, even if I didn't love them.

5. These actors have actual lives. They don't exist just to please me. If they say they can't manage a live show right now, I believe them. These are the same people who once showed up at a canceled Firefly convention so they wouldn't disappoint their fans. They also have all stated that Firefly was one of the most fun jobs they ever had. I think if they could manage a live action show right now, they most certainly would do one.

6. If I don't support this, and I make a big stink about hating it online, I could be helping to tank the possibility of a live-action reunion EVER taking place. Even if this completely sucks, I want to show enthusiasm right now, to make it clear that most of the fans would support continuing the series. If this fails, and it turns out that the cast has no springboard for something bigger and better down the road, I'll be far more disappointed than I am now.

So, if it gets made, I'll watch it. And if it's not good, I'll be disappointed. But right now, I'm hoping for the best, and no power in the 'verse will stop me.
