Edit: I believe I have someone interested in the SPARCstation now, but feel free to register an interest if you like, I'll try to keep track. It makes me happy that there's so much interest in this nice old machine :)

Original post below:

Would you, or anyone you know, be interested in a free SPARCstation 20 and be able to collect it from the South of Scotland in early April? Some more details here: https://mackenga.ro/blog/2026/free-sparcstation-and-more/index.html

Boosts appreciated if you think someone downstream of you might want it.

#retrocomputing EDIT : merci beaucoup ! L'ordinateur ira dans des excellentes mains !

(Update)

I have figured out it *might* be slightly dangerous to keep my Sparcstation 5 (which is inside my private home network) open to the internet so I transferred my gopher server to a more secure location: gopher://www.leosam.net

It would be great if we could run Venix on an emulated Rainbow. Though MAME doesn’t support booting a Rainbow machine from a hard drive OOtB, there is a workaround. #unix #cpm #dos #venix #digital #dec #digitalequipmentcorporation #rainbow #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing #mame https://renaissancedork.com/venix-in-mame/
Ha! Finally managed to install a gopher server on my Solaris2.6 system. now I’m on the gopher space (although 30+ years late)! For anyone curious (and who also has a gopher browser): gopher://leosam.net

Some days I want to open an Internet café with Macintosh Performas (because that’s what I remember Internet cafés having).

It uses an Internet Archive/Wayback Machine proxy, and every day is a random day between 1995 and 2000, which is announced on a board (“Today is July 8th, 1997”).

There’s obviously extensive caching on-premise and monthly donations to the IA for their work.

There’s also good specialty coffee, of course, and other fun retro telecommunications and non-Web Internet stuff (BBS, Teletex, IRC, etc.)

Totally not sustainable and I’ve never run such a thing, but fun to think about. Make the internet exciting again. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing
