Banner is a penguin, likely emperor. Avatar is a cat watching a mouse which is partially hidden by a plant while outdoors.

@bookstodon This is my kind of protagonist: “I look at food and wonder: Can I eat that without having to put my book down?” -- The Secret, Book & Scone Society, by Ellery Adams. #bookstodon #reading
@jdarnold True. But Todd Angilly had the anthem. That's always good.

@friesen5000 @bookstodon TinyCat I think can do that (it's basically a library catalog for small libraries) https://www.librarycat.org/. It can have a cost, generally under $20 per month. If you like the idea but not the cost, TinyCat is built on LibraryThing. Now, can TinyCat do the loaning part... I don't know.

My first thought was actually LibraryThing (which is free) and some quick looking into that brought up TinyCat as an option. I've had an account at LT for forever and still have no idea what a lot of its capabilities are.

@SimonRoyHughes Yep, and that's a downside to purchasing a digital version of anything. You don't truly "own" the purchased item, whether an ebook, a movie, or a video game. If the company behind it, who owns the server, disappears or pulls the rights, there goes your "owned" copy. That largely informs why I don't mind reading classics as ebooks, but most everything else I stick to physical copies.
Watched the #NBAAllStarWeekend Sunday edition and eh... Was it more competitive than last year? Sure. Was it kind of a foregone conclusion that the OGs would win? At least to me it was. I read the rosters and asked myself, "How can that team even lose?" And that was without LeBron playing. It was fun but not amazing. #NBA

I'm not sure how I would feel as Mac McClung - 3 time slam dunk contest champion, pretty much conquered the G League, and still can't get a two-way contract converted to a full #NBA deal.

He hasn't convinced a team he's an asset on a roster full-time. Sure, the first two are great, but the last one is kind of important, too.

I've been watching #4Nations the new #NHL All-Star festivity and overall I like it, except the "4 nations" part of it. Where's Draisaitl for example? Being German, he's not allowed to participate, essentially. Pastrnak can pretty much argue inclusion every year, too. But not this year.

Just do what's kind of obvious - keep it as-is except the selection process is not nation-based. I believe the #NBA is doing something similar, but they're not limiting it by national origin, citizenship, whatnot. (I do think NHL's longer more round-robin approach is better than cramming it into one night like the NBA.)

@JHKoivula Filled it out. I think the poll confused me the first time, I didn't realize it was going to randomly present two ideas. The first time I loaded it, I found both of the first two ideas dreary 😀

@JHKoivula I'm not much for newsletters, but here are the only two things I would want in an author's newsletter: "I'm in City on a book tour for Title and here's either a 500 word essay or a 5-10 minute video on how I develop subplots for secondary characters or some other aspect of my process."

In other words, a very quick update on what the author is doing / working on now, and a peek (just a peek) into the author's personal approach to writing.

But I also come to this with a degree in writing / editing, having already read a lot of books about how to write, and a list of over 5,000 books I'd like to get to someday (but I know I will never finish them all).

And that further aligns with Currents of Space, it was intentionally induced amnesia. I agree it's a trope more than anything, but I read the description of Project Hail Mary today and my first thought was "This sounds a bit like Currents of Space."
