A great panel on "Autocracy and Authoritarianism" and Day 4 at #ecprgc23 is in the books. Glad that I could contribute by presenting some of my work on a three-dimensional conceptualization of Autocratization and its analytical application as well.

I really enjoyed the whole week by now. And definetly, I'm heading home with some very helpful suggestions and a lot of food for thought in my backpack 😊

I'm going to stay at #ecprgc23 in Prague for the whole next week. I will also present a paper on differentiating forms of Autocratization in the panel on "Autocracy and authoritarianism". If anyone would like to exchange ideas over a coffee or beer, just get in touch! πŸ˜‰

This week I'm happy to be part of the Summer School on 'Electoral Democracy in Danger?' at the SciencesPo Paris, organized by @r_dassonneville and @RomainLachat . Two days on Affective Polarization and Electoral Integrity are in the books. Tomorrow we will focus on democratic backsliding,and I'm glad about contributing to the program by presenting a piece of my work on typologizing processes of #autocratization.

P.S.: obviously there are worse places to work than Paris πŸ˜‰

Meanwhile on #Twitter .... 🀑

Very much looking forward to this Workshop and the opportunity to discuss my paper on typologizing autocratization processes later this week in Milan!

P.S. Unfortunately, I have to leave only hours before the kickoff of the UCL final, but I'll desperately support InterπŸ˜‰

@politicalscience

See you at the #ecprgc23 in Prague this September! πŸ₯³ Really looking forward to getting in touch with the community after two Covid-years!

Finally, there are also some cases which can give hope regarding Democratic Resilience. For example, the autocratization episode in Slovenia has officially been interrupted.

@politicalscience

Third, there are some cases, like for example Greece or Austria, which might be in in danger of an emerging autocratization episode.

Interesting btw, to compare the graphs of the U.S. and Greece. We should keep in mind that the operationalization of the ERT is far from perfect, and we should be careful to blindly follow the classifications.

@politicalscience

Second, quite "prominent" autocratization episodes, like in Brazil, Poland, or Hungary are still ongoin. For example, Poland is approaching the point where we can no longer classify it as an electoral democracy, but as an electoral autocracy.

@politicalscience
What is new in comparison to last year?

First, the U.S. is for the first time in history "officially" in an autocratization episode. The outcome is censored, as the episode is ongoing.
