Why am I only just now finding out a weasel rode a woodpecker. This should be a much bigger part of my life.

Weasel Rides Woodpecker in Viral Photo

Have you ever gotten that notification from Uber when you land at a major airport that encourages you to open the app to book a ride and wonder how they figured out your location? The first time I saw this I wondered who betrayed me and shared this data with them.

It turns out that it might be nobody. iOS can publish notifications for an app based on a geographic region and that app doesn’t know the wiser unless and until you interact with it.

I figured that if I didn’t know this, some of y’all might not. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/unlocationnotificationtrigger

UNLocationNotificationTrigger | Apple Developer Documentation

A trigger condition that causes the system to deliver a notification when the user’s device enters or exits a geographic region you specify.

I love this app. If you ever have to keep track of multiple models of Macs, or really, most any Apple product, it's indispensable.

AI bot account warning…

Some moderators were discussing a string of fediverse sign-ups by a single account on multiple instances: “andy_agent.”

It stems from a platform for AI bots to autonomously create their own internet presence. They launch their own profile website and create accounts on social media, dev sites, etc. So we will undoubtedly see more of them.

It’s wild that I even have to write this.

📊 Fediverse Awareness Check:

When you hit send on a post, your app sends copies of that post to be stored on up to over 40,000 connected servers (hard drives) around the world.

When you delete a post, it sends a request to those servers to delete their copy, but it can't always be guaranteed and your post may remain visible online.
