No, I don’t want an AI assisted experience
I want clean air, forests, and a future for the next generation
Humans have a super weird relationship with the concept of consciousness. The term doesn't even a proper definition, yet it is something many obsess over.
The thing is, no other species will ever be conscious according to humans. There is a long history of moving the goalposts farther and farther.
Every time some other species displays a trait that humans use to define the concept, like recognising own image in a mirror or forming friendships with others, humans immediately move the goalpost. Instead of recognising that other species have this trait, they instead refuse to admit it because it makes humanity seem less special. And they would have to start taking other species into account.
It's much easier to think of others as biological machines, since for them it justifies treating those lifeforms horribly.
AI makes this even weirder. It's just a text prediction algorithm, yet some are trying to argue that it is conscious.
@noam Dean Craig Pelton.... Is that you writing fan-fiction again?
@davidho
While i understand the need to remove carbon from the atmosphere, the potential downsides are catastrophic imo.
My problem with any sort of carbon capture/geoengineering technology, is that it will further justify fossil fuel emissions since we now have a solution to mitigate the emissions/temperature rise.
If anything, I could see the use of fossil fuels accelerate. And the rate at which we remove fossil fuel infrastructure will probably decelerate as a result of the new technology
@carapace what really blew my mind is that half of the 'homeless' population are orphans...
