Tomorrow night (Feb 13th) I'll be joining dozens of writers at the San Francisco Writers Conference Sips & Stories After Dark Event. It's free to attend, but you must register. Come say hi! I'd love to see you.
"Come mix and mingle with authors and other book lovers in the beautiful San Francisco Hyatt Regency Embarcadero on Friday night, Feb. 13th from 8-10 pm. Shop at the on-site bookstore or buy directly from the authors. Gather and socialize in the magnificent atrium of the Hyatt. A cash bar will be available and a hot chocolate bar for the little ones in the children’s section at this all-ages event. Sip and savor the sounds of live classical music from local symphony musicians and more during this unique experience. No entry fee, but a two-book-minimum is encouraged."

No Kings, SF!
Great turnout today in San Francisco. The Chronicle is reporting 50k, (which makes it larger than the June protest).

Happy to have taken part in last night's STORY IS THE THING reading series at Kepler's Books. Pictured from left to right:
J E Weiner with her novel The Wretched and Undone, a multi-generational ghost story set in Texas, which I was fascinated to learn was informed by oral histories.
Me with The Expert of Subtle Revisions, inspired by my grandfather's recollections of the Vienna Circle and the murder of Moritz Schlick.
Kate Folk with Sky Daddy, the Moby Dick of the sky, which follows a woman whose obsession with planes shapes her life in page-turning ways.
Kyle Edwards with Small Ceremonies, a novel in a dozen compelling voices of Indigenous high school hockey players and their families.
Many thanks to Kepler's Books and Heather Birchall for hosting! It was a wonderful night.

And I'll end with one of my favorite shots, my novel THE EXPERT OF SUBTLE REVISIONS placed beside two by Rudolf Brunngraber that are part of the exhibition. Many thanks to Elisabeth Preininger for taking these photographs and sharing them with me! "Wien und die Wissenschaftliche Weltauffassung: Orte des Wiener Kreises" runs until September 19, 2025. German Nationalists were prevalent in the faculty of the University of Vienna in my grandfather's time there. One professor, Johannes Sauter, under the pseudonym ‘Prof. Autriacus’ even went so far as to (grotesquely) blame Professor Schlick for his own murder. For a Catholic weekly, Sauter claimed that “with his anti-metaphysical philosophy, [Schlick] had violated Christian-German values and stirred up the student youth.” Photograph by Elisabeth Preininger, Vienna, Austria.
