Making people pay to tweet should be the nail in the coffin for #Twitter; but then again I thought turning it into a glorified Parler would've been that nail already. As they say, the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.

me: do you sell ducks?

him: yes, but they're going quick

me: ok I'll take one

[later]

duck: quick

me: I see

"Bluesky or Threads may be more for me"
There are probably more than a few people uttering those words here. It says a lot really... unfortunately, not much of it good.

#Fediverse #CorporateCapture #Mastodon #TwitterMigration #SocialMedia

Human beings were never meant to be on a single social media platform for life. Archaeological evidence tells us our earliest ancestors hopped from platform to platform, following the migrations of the influencer herds, moving on when the soil was too depleted to grow new discourse

Me: Mastodon is the best. People are friendly, there's no manipulative algorithm, and it's full of interesting content.

Journalist: Amazing, the headline of my article will be "Mastodon is social media's new hope".

Me: Also, there are no ads.

Journalist: Interesting. Let's change that headline to "Mastodon is a toxic cesspool that is already dead".

A side note: I cannot recommend any of the other private alternatives to Twitter, including Bluesky, Spoutible, or Post.

Any private platforms are subject to the same risks that have befallen Twitter. Also, Dorsey and Musk share the same worldview. Mastodon is at least open, and your data is portable.

As Twitter is melting down (once again), we have many new users coming in here at Toad.Social. All are welcome.

I am committing to break significant news here first, and only later on Twitter, henceforth.

My team and I are heads down working on significant new stories, so may be a bit quieter than usual, but we'll be making sure you have a good experience here.

Thanks for being part of this community, and for your commitment to truth and journalistic integrity.

Jesus fucking Christ. Spoutible is trending on Twitter. Will people never learn to avoid the grifters? Why do Americans enjoy being such suckers? I'll never get it.
(2/2) but ultimately I have an unqualified feeling that single tenant instances should be viable somehow.

Anyways, it's so hard to get people to wake up to the information warfare that we face in modern society. I'm hoping that maybe after they kick out Russians Ukrainians will teach us how to educate ourselves to protect ourselves better from the malinformation.
