This Oatmeal comic on AI art is one of the better things I’ve seen in the topic.

Anyone who uses GitHub can benefit from learning how to use GitHub Actions to automate repetitive tasks like formatting code, running tests, and publishing reports and documentation. You don't have to be a software engineer to get something out of it!

Back in February, I presented a live demo on github actions for NCI bioinformaticians. If you're interested, you can watch the recording and/or following along the notes at your own pace.

This 4th of July, we're looking for scientists to share why they're proud to do science in the US. Or maybe you're not a scientist -- but you're proud of the work that US scientists do or you've benefited from US science research. Let us know in the survey below! forms.gle/j8gWMSggKVvJ...

This 4th of July, Your Neighborhood Scientist is asking American scientists and non-scientists why they are proud of scientific research in the US. Scientists: why are you proud to perform taxpayer-funded research in the US? Are you finding the next cure for cancer? Creating new nano technology for workplace innovations? Surveying wastewater to keep your communities safe from diseases? Developing technology to launch satellites into space? Tell us why it makes you proud to do this here in the US – the number one funder of biomedical research in the world. Non-scientists: why are you proud of scientific research in the US? How has science benefited you personally and/or your community broadly? Why are you proud to be a taxpayer who helps fund American science? Your answers can be as short or as long as you like. By submitting this form, you agree that Your Neighborhood Scientist can use your responses with attribution in promotional materials, including online and printed content.

Don't mind me, just reading research code written in Java from 2004 and achieving a new profound understanding of why Python took over science
Today is Rare Disease Day! This week, our Neighborhood Scientist is Dr. Brooke Wolford, who is grateful for NIH funding not only for her own research, but for a much more personal reason: it saved her mom’s life. You can read Dr. Wolford’s essay & subscribe on our website.

Why isn’t Mastodon more popular? Well trying to follow someone from the website is infuriating, for one thing.
To be fair this particular pipeline is for a one-off benchmarking project and my note-taking was... not great 😅
Trying to pick up working on a custom #nextflow pipeline after not working on it for 9 months is painful. Channel operators are powerful but difficult to remember what they actually do!
