An expert is someone who has made a lot of mistakes in a very narrow field.

XR, retro tech, energy science.

Ireland by way of Australia by way of US by way of Ireland.

I got Apple's visionOS Simulator streaming wirelessly to a Meta Quest using ALVR.

visionOS sim -> Quest Link, in-headset view:

currently the left eye is much laggier than the right eye, but it works and it's stereo-correct and that's what matters

@jjtech @ShinyQuagsire visionos gestures working from Magic Leap to your XRGyroControls but I need to figure out gaze mapping from real world FOV to sim FOV. It’s not quite lined up as I’m looking at a screen not the environment. Problem goes away, or at least minimises if I can get @zhuowei screens rendering in my headset #visionos

@jjtech Streaming video slowly coming to life. Slowdown due to intel MacBook and convoluted webrtc pipeline. Lots of room for optimisation though. And sorry for muddy video, not at home and iPhone held up to ML one results in potato vision. 30 fps possible without simulator running!

@ShinyQuagsire do you think it’s possible to port OpenXR to Magic Leap One? Linux based, has C and Unity apis to inputs and outputs but doesn’t really have a root shell or allow standard Linux executables AFAIK.
Initiating my iPhone camera from the Freeform Mac app with “take photo”. Taking a photo of my hand with a VR controller. Then in Freeform doing an instant alpha/remove background and leaving just my hand and controller 👩‍🍳💋. That was 5 mins work done in 30 seconds, with complete harmony between iPhone, iPad and macOS. Not sure if the #visionpro demo ensured all this stuff was up to scratch. Either way, I’m all in on Freeform now.

I’ve started and dismissed Apple Freeform as an underpowered drawing app. But I gave it another go today, I need to spec up some VR UX work. I’m now a convert, 3 things did it for me:

1 - infinite canvas that just works. No page size, just get in there and start diagramming.

2 - iPad/Mac Sync. I was able to swap between the iPad with my Apple Pencil for sketching and my Mac for more text based stuff. It just worked. The syncing is nearly real-time.

3. But the winner was….
