@StevenBeschloss Agreed -- but it should've been obvious all along. He's not going to drop that kind of money to protect speech -- It was always about either money, or more likely the power to shape news and politics. In this day of Misinformaiton, owning the pipes mean to can curate misinformation to achieve specific ends. What I want to know is Who are his funders, what deal did they make, and what leverage do they have on him.
@rbreich "Can't afford" is a Values statement, not an empirical claim. When someone says "we can't afford it", the just mean other things are more important to them -- in this case Defense Budgets are just more important than climate, family, and subsidizing broad education for America.
@jensimmons Any news org worth its salt must be looking at twitter now and seeing nothing but uncertainty and censorship. Time to move.

@jensimmons I’m assuming we’ll see “mastodon servers as a service” with easy signup and launch soon. And we’ll see opportunitistic VCs trying to figure out how to pour some Capital on this emerging platform to make it big time. Let’s focus on creating a conversation here and watch it grow.
