Gosh, I hope so! It worries me to see Taibbi’s follower counts on Twitter growing since he has started doing PR for Elon and to see people like Bari Weiss and Michael Shellenberger launching new ventures to cash in on the increased attention.

shredhq@emptywheel Taibbi transformation makes no sense. Was he threatened with arrest or prosecution all those years ago when he worked in Russia? Did he cut a deal to escape Russian charges? Is his new persona a reflection of the deal he made to avoid Russian justice?

I think he slipped under the radar of many when the barbs of his contrarianism were pointed at Bush Republicans and their disastrous policy choices. Where common sense and morality ceased to overlap with Kremlin interests, his schtick fell apart.

I did share your thread from 12/26 but especially since those two have just launched a new Substack named with a nod to (ex-CIA guy) Martin Gurri’s book, to build on the attention garnered from their Twitter files, it would be great to have a more detailed debunking out there. Appreciate your work.
