Science teacher, mom to two.

Came across this cute comic on my feed, and wanted to share it with J-M, because it’s so true and adorable (though the movie bit is also pretty real sometimes). Waded through pages of Tineye results to find the original source. Whoever shared this originally five years ago went to the trouble of carefully cropping out the bottom with the credits. Ugh.

But anyway, yes, going through medical stuff with a spouse is the Realest Love Shit

Taken on this morning's dog walk, been trying to get one like this for a few days, had the right combination of weather and timing today

Weird aspect of teaching is the unannounced observation. I feel like every lesson has to be perfect because you have no clue with which you will be assessed. Today was far from perfect and of course I was observed. Ready to explain how I could be better… but painful. Truly painful. #stem #edutoots #edutooter #TeacherPrep

I just spotted my first wombats in the wild on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania.

These stocky little marsupials sort of look like a cross between a baby brown bear, koala & pig. They have a pouch like other marsupials, but it’s backwards which prevents dirt from entering as they burrow.

At just over 3 ft long, they’re absolutely charming. But millions of years ago, herds of giant wombats as large as rhinoceros roamed southern #Australia. #wildlife #photography #SharedPlanet

About 250M years ago, 90% of species on Earth died during the Permian extinction. All of that loss created a lot of vacant niches to fill.

And not long after, the first mammals, our ancestors, appeared.

I find it comforting to remember that life on this pale blue dot will be resilient - whether we’re part of it or not. #science #nature #history #SharedPlanet

In schools, we teach science through the lens of single subjects - biology, chemistry & physics - but it’s the ways they interact with economics, psychology & more that shape our world.

Ultimately, science is related to every significant challenge we face. It’s written into the agricultural policies that sustain us. It ensures we have clean drinking water & enough energy to keep the lights on. At is core, #science is fundamental to our health, safety & future. https://sheril.substack.com/p/a-dissertation-on-democracy
